  • What is your profession? Yoga/Fitness Instructor
  • How long have you been a member at CrossFit 727 and what were you doing prior? CF727 member since opening and member of CF Enfuego in Land- O- Lakes since 2009
  • What motivated you to start? My ex husband introduced me to the box owners, loved the strong supportive community
  • Complete the sentence: I knew I was a CrossFitter when… I returned to the box 1 month after falling from a box jump and had a bad concussion.
  • Favorite WOD (if any)? Filthy Fifty,
  • Favorite Olympic lift (if any)? Clean and Jerk
  • Least favorite movements and why? Overhead Squats, Box jumps , mental block from previous injuries
  • What has been your biggest accomplishments? Pull-ups, took me 7 years. Still have a long way to go to be consistent but jumped that first hurdle
  • Goal(s) for the next few months? Continuing clean paleo eating and counting macros., running 4xs week and 5 consistent and good pull-ups
  • What helps you get through tough WODs? My early morning peeps, Caterina, Stephen, Phil, Kelley and that inner voice that tells me I can’t.
  • Any advice for newbies? Just get up and do it, no excuses, I’m 52 with a debilitating autoimmune disorder but never felt stronger, healthier and happier because of it. You make your quality of life!
  • What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit? Love yoga, reading, the beach, swimming and sailing
  • What is one fun fact about you? World History Junkie

Athlete of the Month: Tom Williams

  • Where are you from? The great state of New Jersey on the Island of Stone Harbor
  • What is your profession? I help other entrepreneurs make their dreams come true by financing their business.  I also own a brewery which makes me smile when people love our beer!
  • How long have you been a member at CrossFit 727 and what were you doing prior? Since 2014 when CrossFit 727 opened and I wasn’t doing anything but running a few times a week prior
  • What motivated you to start? Midlife reality of knowing I needed to get fit and increase my mental and physical toughness and manage my blood pressure.
  • Complete the sentence: I knew I was a CrossFitter when… I felt no shame laying on the sidewalk on central.  I was hooked!
  • Favorite WOD (if any)? 12 days of Christmas..  Love those chippers!
  • Favorite Olympic lift (if any)? Push Press
  • Least favorite movements and why? Overhead Lunges because they show how bad my flexibility is and I just don’t like the movement.
  • What has been your biggest accomplishments? Staying with it when I felt like quitting.  Especially when it was Ryan and I 1-on-1 and I was really out of shape.  I still fear being rolled out by Ryan!
  • Goal(s) for the next few months? 4 days a week and RomWod daily to increase my flexibility.
  • What helps you get through tough WODs? Knowing I have been through them before and other folks hurting as well.
  • Any advice for newbies?  Don’t quit and stay with it.  I did and I was 43 when I started and out of shape.  If I can you can.
  • What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit?  Boating, Reading, and playing with the kids
  • What is one fun fact about you? I trained for Pogo Sticking for Guiness Book of World Records (Calves are proof)

August Athlete of the Month: Johann Mohorko

  1. Where are you from? San Juan, PR
  2. What is your profession? USPS city letter carrier
  3. How long have you been a member at CrossFit 727 and what were you doing prior? 3 years with CrossFit 727, before that YMCA and other regular gyms
  4. What motivated you to start? When I saw a bunch of athletes running around the block carrying medicine balls
  5. Complete the sentence: I knew I was a CrossFitter when…I almost passed out from my first wod and then I was excited to go back the next morning
  6. Favorite WOD (if any)? DT
  7. Favorite Olympic lift (if any)? Deadlifts and all squats
  8. Least favorite movements and why? Front lunges and burpees because I suck at it. HAHA!
  9. What has been your biggest accomplishments? Running a whole mile without having to stop to walk
  10. Goal(s) for the next few months? Lose some weight and improve my performance in metcons
  11. What helps you get through tough WODs? The support of the coaches and other members
  12. Any advice for newbies? Have fun and enjoy it. This is tough, but if I can do, it YOU can do this
  13. What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit? Watch sports, drink beer and play dominoes with my friends

July Athlete of the Month: Caterina Caravello

  1. Where are you from? Originally I was born in London. Then, I lived in St. Louis, Missouri but I have been in Florida for more than 20 years.
  2. What is your profession? I have been the Regional Director of Admissions for Cortiva Institute for the last 9 years.
  3. How long have you been a member at CrossFit 727 and what were you doing prior? I’ve been with CF 727 just over 3 years, and prior to that I was at CFSP.
  4. What motivated you to start? I was originally looking for a personal training program with a kick to enhance my regular boring globo gym routine. I wanted to have a trainer push me.
  5. Complete the sentence: I knew I was a CrossFitter when…I almost died but then came back for more.
  6. Favorite WOD (if any)? I like anything incorporating pull-ups or deadlifts. Sometimes I actually like doing Fran..
  7. Favorite Olympic lift (if any)? Power cleans
  8. Least favorite movements and why? OHS definitely one of the most challenging moves for me.
  9. What has been your biggest accomplishments? Overall, I would say my movement patterns have improved significantly and I’ve become stronger and continue to add plates.
  10. Goal(s) for the next few months? Handstands, improving my OHS
  11. What helps you get through tough WODs? Pre-workout and a motivating AM crowd!
  12. Any advice for newbies? Put in the work and show up even when you don’t want to. That fulfilling feeling for me every day, is walking out of CF feeling amazing.
  13. What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit? I love to cook, travel as often as I can to different destinations.
  14. What is one fun fact about you? I speak Italian, French and German.

April Athlete of the Month: Dave Weaks

  1. Where are you from? Originally, I am from Sarasota but I moved to St. Pete in 2006 for school. I really enjoy living here and I don’t see leaving anytime soon.
  2. What is your profession? I am a corporate pilot for various organizations in the Tampa Bay area. Primarily, I fly for Aveda Institutes where they teach how to style, cut, color and anything else one would do with hair. They also sell Aveda shampoo, conditioner and other various beauty products.
  3. How long have you been a member at CrossFit 727 and what were you doing prior? Around 4 years…I think. This question has kept coming up and I should really find the exact answer. February of 2014 seems familiar. Prior to CF727  was the Anytime Fitness. I had a year membership and probably went two, maybe three times per month. No motivation or achievements, I would just do the same old routine: back day, leg day, chest day, arm day, repeat.
  4. What motivated you to start? Frustration, Boredom and a youtube video of the CF Games on a Saturday morning about to do arm day.
  5. Complete the sentence: I knew I was a CrossFitter when… I was excited to come back the very next day after having to use the elevator from the 150 wallballs I just did.
  6. Favorite WOD (if any)? Annie (this is for you George)
  7. Favorite Olympic lift (if any)? Snatch- there is so much technical stuff going on and when I first did the movement even the bar was too much weight.
  8. Least favorite movements and why? Thrusters- If one can imagine using an old fashioned bellow (google it)….well that contraption is like my lungs when I do thrusters. Especially someone as tall and lanky as I am.
  9. What has been your biggest accomplishments? Not doing thrusters for at least 2 weeks….jk. Right now in the CF world I would say the bar muscle up. I never thought that would happen and it makes me want to do more. Its those little personal milestones that I really enjoy.
  10. Goal(s) for the next few months? Ring Muscle Ups are my next goal. I also hope to do well on Murph.
  11. What helps you get through tough WODs? Mostly the people around me that are there for the same common goal. We all know it’s going to be hard but we all are willing to give it a try. Preworkout mix helps too!
  12. Any advice for newbies? The anxiety and nervousness a newbie feels is certainly expected and understandable. Try not to get discouraged because this is tough and those feelings are only temporary after attending the first few classes. Give it a chance (I would say a month or more to really see what it has to offer) and you may find a new passion, hobby or at the very least meet some really nice people.
  13. What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit? Anything outdoors, boating to the sandbar and biking are my two favorites
  14. What is one fun fact about you? I was a marching band geek in high school and I the first instrument I played was the marching tamborine….seriously.

Name? Missy Daicoff

Where are you from? St. Pete, FL born and raised.Missy

What is your profession? I am currently an accountant at Pricewaterhouse Coopers and more recently a CPA.

How long have you been a member at CrossFit 727 and what were you doing prior? I have been a member of CrossFit 727 ever since the doors opened. Before that I was working out in my brother’s garage box about twice a week.

How did you get involved in CrossFit? My brother and fellow seasoned athlete, George, convinced me to try it out.

Complete the sentence: I knew I was a CrossFitter when… I couldn’t stop talking about it.

What are your favorite and least favorite movements and workouts and why? My favorite movement is either the clean and jerk or back squats. I am much stronger in my lower body and I really enjoy squatting. My least favorite movement is the snatch because it is such a technical lift and mentally it is a challenge for me. However, due to the high volume of snatches that we do, I am starting to appreciate the lift. One of my favorite workouts would have to be Murph, when Dana isn’t measuring out the “mile run”. My list for least favorite workouts is much longer but I think Fran wins that category every time.

What is your biggest accomplishment? Besides making it to the occasional Saturday morning WOD? I think one of my biggest accomplishments would be never giving up during a workout. There have been many times where all I wanted to do was just lay down in the middle of a WOD and not move for the next 30 minutes. But then I look around and see everyone else pushing themselves and the coaches motivating us to pick up the bar and keep moving. Then I realize we are all in it together and I don’t want to let them or myself down. So no matter how long it takes for me to finish a WOD, I’ll finish it.

What are your short and long term CrossFit goals? A short term goal of mine is to back squat 200 pounds and to finally master the kipping pull up. One of my long term Crossfit goals is to compete in another competition.

What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit? I enjoy spending time with my massive American bulldog, Carter. I am lucky enough to have my family in St. Pete and get to see them frequently. I like to travel to new places and hope to see Greece one day. Of course I take advantage of the Florida sunshine and love to be outside at the beach or out on the water.

What is one fun fact about you? I grew up a diehard Florida Gator, but graduated from Florida State University. The UF/FSU game is an interesting day in our household.
